چکیده

The Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Dual-Frequency Radar (DPR) (Ku- and Ka-band, or 14 35 GHz) provides the capability to resolve precipitation structure under moderate heavy conditions. In this manuscript, use of near-coincident observations between GPM CloudSat Profiling (CPR) (W-band, 94 are demonstrated extend representing light rain cold-season from DPR passive microwave constellation sensors. These unique triple-frequency data have opened up applications related precipitation, ice microphysics, rainfall surface emissivity effects.

CloudSat-Based Assessment of GPM Microwave Imager Snowfall Observation Capabilities

The sensitivity of Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Microwave Imager (GMI) high-frequency channels to snowfall at higher latitudes (around 60◦N/S) is investigated using coincident CloudSat observations. The 166 GHz channel is highlighted throughout the study due to its ice scattering sensitivity and polarization information. The analysis of three case studies evidences the important combi...

CloudSat Radar Instrument Design and Development Status

The Cloud Profiling Radar is the key science instrument for the CloudSat Mission to acquire a global data set of vertical atmospheric cloud structure and its variability. CPR is a 94-GHz nadir-looking radar that measures the power backscattered by clouds as a function of distance from the radar. This sensor is expected to provide cloud measurements at a 500-m vertical resolution and a 1.5-km ho...
